Personal Biography
I was born in Canada but moved to London when I was 4 years old. When I was 7 I was enrolled into a Catholic convent, where I remained until just before my 15th birthday. I had to attend mass 4 times a week and every evening for the rosary, I actually enjoyed church and around age 8 or 9 I had what I believe was my first mystical experience. It was a sunny morning and I left church to walk to the main building for lunch when I started to sing to myself and felt myself drawn into a world of my own where I felt filled with Love and acceptance, I become conscious that, being a child of God and connected to the universe, I was never alone. This experience lasted only moments and after I remember feeling stronger, happier and in my child's mind I understood that I was a part of something great. I have had this experience several times since and it usually occurs in times of great need, nurturing and consoling me.
In my early 20's I moved to Holland where I lived for 7 years. During this time I decided I wanted to go on a spiritual quest and went to Israel to live on a Kibbutz. I travelled around Israel and Egypt visiting holy and spiritual places connecting daily with my own inner spiritual self. It was in Egypt where I met my children's father who was from Australia. We decided to get married in England then move to Australia.
It wasn't long before I became very depressed, I had no friends or family and I found it impossible to get a job. I started self-harming and eventually I went to see the doctor who wanted to put me on anti- depressants but I refused to take them and started yoga and meditation instead, which continues to work for me. This put me on a path of healing and re-connecting with my inner spiritual self. This spiritual awakening saved me, and my faith and love of God and all the prophets support me daily still.
I have developed my own faith, a mixture of Catholicism, social justice and unconditional love. I have a deep love and interest in religions and value all of them as I see a common thread of goodness reflected in each. I have always felt connected to the human race in a non-tangible way, helping others whenever I could, accepting people for whoever they are regardless of their race, creed, class or sexual orientation.
"It is due to my own personal experiences with deep depression and finding healing in Meditation and Spirituality that I am passionate about working with individuals to help them discover their spiritual selves and heal their past hurts." Lisa Gonnet
